I do like your universal wheel trueing system, and I maybe doing this to a real nice live center that I got cheap and has a flat point on the end, not sure it was made that way though.

I think mine is 3 in and is chinese not expensive at all and works great I put a hard drive magnet on the bottom and it stick firmly to the ways and use it for distance travel for depth all the time.
