Default Phase Converter

I pick up a phase a matic 30 hp converter at a auction. It may be a expensive boat anchor.
I hooked it up to a 60 amp breaker and it pop it right off.
I hooked 1 line to t1 and another to t2. The t3 line I left unconnected
I took the top off and there are 12 -270uf capacitors all solder connections.
I have a capacitor checker My question is do I need disconnect them to test?

Would bad caps cause it to trip the breaker?

Can we assume this is "not" a Rotary converter?

Yes you have to disconnect each cap for testing.

Yes A shorted cap can Trip a breaker.

You may need a wiring diagram, L1, L2 is what usually connects to the Line and the T's connect to a motor.

At 30 hp just charging the caps may trip a breaker until they charge up.

Tech support exists for good reason. Can't hurt to give 'em a call if their tech data doesn't solve the problem. It would be wise to print the tech data since websites aren't forever.
