Yeah, I remember wanting something from the local Grainger years ago & they proudly told me they wouldn't sell it to me.
And that's the thing that floored me, that they seemed so happy about not making a sale and three people stood behind the counter with big smiles, nodding their heads at each other in agreement.
It was just weird and alien.
It took a few phone calls but I eventually found the same thing for a few bucks less somewhere that was happy to take my money.

That was back before the internet so I had no easy way to search for another source.
Now, I wouldn't have any reason to grease their egos.

We've had an acct. with Grainger for 15 years or so. I buy the same thing every time, about 4 times a year. 10 switches and 10 covers, always in stock. I call and tell them to repeat the last order, bill me, ship economy and I'm off the phone in 2-3 minutes. I'll usually have my order in 1-2 days (they ship out of Jax). I can't really complain...

At one time I used to go into their "local" store to pick up my items as it was in my travels. That store was open for about 5 years but is now closed. I only recall that service was slow and EVERYTHING overpriced. Hell, I might have to check pricing on the switches from other vendors now that I think about it...

I was not aware you needed an acct. to buy from them. From the plethora of "ones who get it done" and "safety, safety, safety" commercials I hear on the radio, it would not make sense to have such a requirement. It is not like you are getting jobber pricing or anything...

I'm not wanting to pound on Grainger or their practices, but yes it's not uncommon to be at their counter and hear them tell some pour soul that they will not sell to them without an account.

Usually I'll direct them to another option for less money making sure the counter help hears me saying so.

Yes I have an account, do I use it? Seldom, but usually only out of necessity.

Hell, I've bought a part for a barred customer after I asked him if he had cash to sell it to him in the parking lot with my discount. Then went back in the store and got change for a hundred to bring change to the customer they probably lost forever. Go figure. With that, I call stupid on the company.

I promise you, if your looking for best pricing on a product, you do not want to be buying from Graingers.

I just sent the follow email to Hobart Customer Service. Let's see what we get back.

Grainger is selling a "Hobart 706" welding wire. It is a very poor quality wire,
and I am being polite. The packaging says Made in China. While the Logo is
close to yours it just does not look right and the tag line is different. Also I
cannot find this 706 wire on your website. Do you supply this to Grainger or
is this some counterfeit wire?
