Default What Do We Do Now?

We have a new neighbour moving in to the complex where our business is located--right across the parking lot, actually. The previous tenant left behind a Toyota electric forklift with a non-working battery. Their move was a big step up the ladder for them so they bought a brand new forklift for their new facility. The new neighbour wanted nothing to do with the old forklift--just wanted it out of their space so a couple days ago I called one of the guys from the old place and asked him what they wanted for the forklift. He said he'd talk to his bosses and let me know if they wanted to sell and, if so, how much. He stopped by this afternoon to tell me that the forklift was indeed for sale. When I asked him how much he said: "We just want it gone so give us a hundred bucks and it's yours. I near broke my wrist getting my wallet out.

Now we have to decide what to do with it. Batteries are expensive but it could be just one bad cell or we could try de-sulphating it. Another option could be to go the way Ironman did and convert it to a hydraulic drive but we really don't have time for a project now and neither do we have a lot of space to store it. I guess I'll try putting it on Craigslist and see what happens--it's sure seems too nice to send for scrap...

Crazy price: check

You suck!

I'd check the battery out close and go from there.

Yeah, I was afraid that would happen. Can I apologize now or should I wait till later?

Yeah, we got the charger with it so we're definitely going to be doing some testing, just to see what it actually does. I know from talking to them that the guys who had it before weren't real savvy on what was going on so we may get lucky and find a simple fix--not holding my breathe, though...

Depending on how the battery is assembled, you may be able to replace the individual bad cell(s).

+1 on the "you suck"

You REALLY SUCK !

If the batteries aren't trashed I reserve the right to upgrade that statement with more stern terms concerning just how much you suck !

We have a friend/customer who repairs forklifts--he'll be my first phone call tomorrow. We might end up partnering on the thing...
