Default Xray

How many have stuck the feet into one of these? They had one when I was a kid in Sears for fitting your shoes before xrays where bad for you.

Before my time. I have not run across one of those machines yet. Interesting read.

They were pretty common when I was a kid they dissappeared about the time I entered my teens. the scary part is that they were fascinating so a lot of people took extra looks.

I did around 1955-6

Oh sure. John Jocabs dad had one in his shoe store in Quanah, Texas.
My mother was skeered of it.
I wonder if that's why both my big toenails fell off 4 or 5 years ago?

At least no ingrown toenails now.

Oh, no. Don't mis-underestimate them. They grew right back, just as bad as new.
Took about a year. Very disappointing.

Yep, me too. There was one in the "buster Brown" shoe store in my home town. Right between WT Grants and The Boston store, on state Street.

In my Tweens, we used to sneak in without our parents and look at our feet 'till the cranky old guy ran us out. Yes, I still have both my big toe's.
'Bout '57 or '58

Back in them days, kids could skip school, run loose down town, poke around in all the stores, eat lunch at the automat or YMCA soda fountain and easily outwit the truancy officers...

Not that I ever did anything that could be considered wrong, during that time.

RED, the good little kid.

I guess those machines made sure that my shoes fit. Unfortunately, my Mother would buy "One size fits all" socks. They didn't stretch quite far enough. My big toe has a bend to the center of my foot from those "Stretch" socks that didn't.

I'm glad I'm not old like you guys. It wouldn't have done me any good though, I outgrew them on the way across the parking lot from the shoe store.
