Yea, the electrician at work wasn't sure about whether or not it needed tape at 6" above or 6" below, but that it needed to be marked, so I did both.

Think about it. If 6" below you already destroyed the line and maybe equipment operator . I believe 6 " above and minimum of 2 ' deep . No mine is not done that way.

I took that to mean 6 inches above the wire and 6 inchec below grade .
That way the first bucketfull brings up warning tape and cautious operation will allow you to get within 6 inches of the wire safely .
minimum burial depth should be as per local codes but current depth 20 years later may be different due to changes made after the wire was burried.

This is what I did, and it is deeper than code, but only because it was easy digging for the area. Normally this area has lots of flag stone to bust through.

Mine are 2-3 feet deep closer to 3 than 2. I did not use tape. I think it is a good idea though.
