Default Hobart Mig Wire?

Out of convenience I bought a spool of Hobart wire. I typically use Radnor ER70S-6 and it seems to work fine. Nowhere on the Hobart package or the spool is ER70S-6 indicated. I questioned the counter person at Grainger at the time but he could not give me an answer.

I have never had as much contamination of my nozzle and contact tube with any other wire. I find myself having to stop and clean after just one or two minutes of welding and the build up seems to be more difficult to remove with this Hobart wire.

Has anyone had such experience? I am planning to return the wire tomorrow and drive the extra 10 miles for the Radnor wire.

I don't think you got real Hobart wire, I think you got some Chinese crap where they are counterfeiting the name...

I don't see any Hobart 706 brand wire on Hobart's website.

Grainger, well I got nothing good to say about them, good luck with the return.

Well, FWIW, it is being sold as "706" wire on Ebay, with a few other bits of info. Which does mention it's from China.

Three Piece, before you take it back, cut off a 3' piece of it and try TIG'ing with it on mild steel, or if possible someone else that is setup for TIG. Just curious.

I do think I was given a partial spool of this stuff this past year while working in the friends shop doing a connection pipe job to help him out. His mention was they used it for gubment jobs in the shop.

Of course, not having it in hand, I'm going on memory. I'll look this afternoon for it.

I buy nothing from Graingers, unless absolutely necessary, they are grossly uninformed parts monkeys, they know the catalog, not the products. The company uses them a lot, they are convienent, as long as you know the product wanted, but hardly economical, they are usually 20-30% higher than other suppliers for the same product.

They rank about one-half step above McMaster-Carr, both of them make MSC, look good.

If one of their associates, said the sun was shining, I’d check, before believing it.

I just sent the follow email to Hobart Customer Service. Let's see what we get back.

Grainger is selling a "Hobart 706" welding wire. It is a very poor quality wire,
and I am being polite. The packaging says Made in China. While the Logo is
close to yours it just does not look right and the tag line is different. Also I
cannot find this 706 wire on your website. Do you supply this to Grainger or
is this some counterfeit wire?
