Default New Anvil stand for the New anvil..

Well finally found some time to make the new anvil stand for the recently purchased NEW anvil..

About time to as I have demo's to do this coming weekend at the Orange Engine show..

I fixed some of the things I didn't like with the old stand..

Principally it still had to much bounce in the bottom of it.. I decided I would reinforce the base and the legs..

I used heavy wall tubing and the plate is 3/8"..

The X in the base is 3/8"X6 wide and it's welded to the bottom as well.. And it is beveled so it's tight to the base/domed section..

It would not look right with some Cadmium plated bolts from the hardware store.

Nice solid base for that anvil, Jen

Gerry, That just wouldn't be right..

It's amazing how much better it is.. I can see a huge difference in the way the metal moves..

Niiice. I almost did the same thing. But I already had a 165# Ridgid/Pedd that I bought (full price) several years ago, along with a 207# Peter Wright beater...couldn't justify it... :-(

They make a nice anvil.. I was a little bummed at the finish on the edges.. Basically they just grind a 45 chamfer to the face.. I get why they do it but I would have preferred square edges and finish my own.. The bevel/chamfer was a little big bigger on one side than the the other and it messed with me.. Still does..

For the money it was the best deal ever..

Nice work, reading this has made me think its time for me to make an anvil stand. I have been using one I made out of 4x4's and it doesn't like the uneven floor in the garage. When I try to work over the edge I chase it in a circle. I'd like to upgrade my anvil too (cast steel 110lb that HF used to carry) but that will have to wait.

I like how you set yours up to work in the trailer. That took a lot of thought. Mine won't be nearly as complicated, but I have to make something that is less mobile than the wooden stand, but doesn't require the tractor to move either.
