This website has a pile of info on points and pointless ignition, troubleshooting and repair. This site is for gettting the motor running best for a garden tractor pulling contest.
For instance:

or
Quote:
GM (Chevrolet) V8 adjustable ignition points can be used on the Kohler K-series 10hp-16hp and twin cylinder flathead cast iron block engines. NOTE: The "Chevrolet" ignition points are actually made for the 1959-'74 American Motors, 1957-'73 Buick, 1956-'73 Cadillac, 1965-'74 Checker, 1957-'73 Chevrolet, 1956-'73 GMC, 1957 Hudson, 1957-'74 International, 1966-'74 Jeep, 1957 Nash, 1956-'73 Oldsmobile, 1957-'73 Pontiac, and 1960-'66 Studebaker vehicles with a V8 engine and Delco-Remy distributor.
Points unavailable on older engine?

Well, we have mowed with it. Clean and dry and no oil usage at all. She came over to have it blown clean and the intake screen had nothing in it.

But maybe some nitrous gas....

Glad the hear that it is running right. Amazing that with no oil slinging around nothing sticks.
