Even though we haven't seen it running yet, that's at least a 2.

Thanks guys for the votes and thanks Cutter for the award!! Even though the mill does work with the step pulleys out of alignment on the vertical head I'm gonna try to fix the motor bracket. I'm leaning toward making a new mount from steel rather than try to weld the cast steel one back together. It's broken in three or four places. Welding is not my strong point. Getting the aluminum step pulley off of the shaft in the quill after 50 or 60 years should be fun.

On the base of the mill is cast the word Diamond with a diamond shape around the word. The tag said manuf. by the diamond machine tool co. Pico California.
Model # M45 and the bottom of the tag says Property of the US, Makes me wonder if it's made for the military. No idea on the date it was made. It shows a serial # but I didn't write it down.

May be a WW2 machine. all I have ever run across had the brass U.S. tag .Most came as part of Gov. contracts for WW2 .My former plant 1978 brought in all the machine tools from other facilities that were being closed.

Suck!

They also made a model 36RU http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb...-36-ru-305402/

Has similarities to the Fray All-Angle mills, which were also made in California.: http://www.lathes.co.uk/fray/

You ought to send pictures of that & nameplate info to Tony@lathes.co.uk He doesn't have pictures of the vertical mills.
