Default Craigslist - Delta jointer

Happened to see a jointer in a CL ad in the tool section. I have a jointer or two, but happened to open the ad anyway. Then noticed it was free. No phone # so I sent an email. I got a reply and I was second in line if the guy didn't pick it up by noon Monday.

About 3 on Monday, I got an email. Tan and I hopped in the truck and had it back here in an hour. It appears to be a Delta 37-207 6" jointer with a serial # dating it to 1953. It has a wee bit of rust from being in an unheated shed but it seems intact and will clean up nicely. Has an old Craftsman motor and the Delta stand. Has the chip chute but no belt guard.

The pic is not the one we got, but looks identical and is in very similar condition. Blades need a sharpening.

Around here, jointers, especially small ones, go cheap. I've seen 4" for $40. asking price without a motor. I did go to pick up a 6" Delta, I believe it was, in pristine condition a couple of years ago but some guy showed up before me and grabbed it from the old guy's wife. (The guy was a sleazy bargain hunter/collector who knew what he was doing.) I think that one might have been about $150. but maybe the slightly more deluxe model.

The guy that gave me this one said he tried to sell it, but I don't know for how long. Has a piece of tape on it with $65. written there.

There was an old, small cast-iron Craftsman table saw awhile back about 10 minutes up the road offered for $10. Looked OK.

Well now, if you had a pic of the one you bought this would indeed qualify for a YOU SUCK for sure. Congrats on the find.

I bought the same jointer about 15 years ago at a garage sale for $80. It was turned on twice in the years since. Last year I asked a recently retired guy down the block who was in his driveway running a tablesaw if he had a jointer. He said no but was in the market for one. I told him to follow me down the street and I would give him one. I never heard from him again.
Moral of the story: Don't give your stuff away for free when it's worth $150 and you suck

I stand corrected I didn't fully read the last paragraph.

Vote for suckage is hereby withheld until all requirements are satisfied.

But it will be forthcoming, as sure as Platypus's swim upstream to spawn.

OK, just so you know my photography sucks, here are a couple of pictures of the jointer.

I haven't found a model tag yet. According to the serial number it should have been made in 1953 at the Ohio plant. But the serial number tag has a Milwaukee address, not Pittsburgh. It may be one of those transitional ones where it is said they were using up the old tags.
