I used 1/2" round to fill the gaps in the ends. I used a magnet to locate the rods.

I cut a chain link and welded it on.

After removing the pinch bolts. It it much more flexible than I thought. You can see that it did spread some but I think I will be able to squeeze it back with the cable puller wrapped around it.

That kind of surprised me. Never would have expected that. I figured with all the welding it would shrink some.

It did shrink, each half is shorter

The pinch bolts had more tension after welding. I had to apply far more torque to remove them than I did tightening them. One of the nut plates threads could not take the load. The threads have deformed and I cannot remove the bolt with my 1/2" drive tools.

Luckily I had unscrewed the bolt enough to fit a blade before it stopped turning.
I'm using a sawzoff (that's what I call it because it is not a Sawzall).
