Default Ornamental question/rolling arches

If you took a section of channel punched with a 4 inch spacing, and arched it 6 inches over a 5 foot span, are the punched holes still spaced correctly?

The easy way or the hard way, and correct for what? If you are talking about an arch for a gate top with pickets going through it then no they are not spaced EXACTLY correctly, but with only a 6" archover 5' then it is close enough.

The easy answer is no, they are not spaced the exact same apart. But it's close, the farthest any of them are is about 3-3/4" to center. If it's stand alone, that would probably work, but if it's used in conjunction with a bottom rail, you'd have to change something somewhere.

It depends on what "spaced correctly" means. They will actually be a hair closer than 4" apart if measured at a straight line connecting the ends of the arch. If you do not require a tight tolerance it should still be close enough with that small amount of arch in five feet. Take a string/rope/paper and mark it at equal spacing then arch the string/rope/paper and you will see that the marks get closer. Hope this makes sense.

Later,

Make two arches just alike and install pickets. use a straight bar on the bottom and the lower arch for decoration, the upper arch for the top. it will all work out.
