They have two on sale this month. One cuts 5/16" for $1200. isn't this high?He said he could get me a 1/2" cut for $2200. I told him since I don't even know who makes them I think I can do better elswhere.

Bob,

My Hypertherm Powermax 30, will cut up to 1/2", and cost about $1200-1300, with the carrying case and about $1000-1100 for the bare unit, depending on who you get it from. The only benefit I see in Mac or Snap-on is you can make payments each week, the products are usually very good, but IMHO vastly overpriced, there is nothing they sell I can't buy cheaper elsewhere. The only reason I have Mac and Snap-on is my ex-BIL was first a S-O dealer, then a Mac dealer, I used to buy at cost, or buy the trade-ins.

my Mac welder was made in Italy, but I found the same machine rebadged at Daytona Mig, which also has plasma cutters. Check them and see if they look like the same machine you saw, then possibly a call to them to find out where it was made or download the product guide it may be listed there.

I am not advocating buying this, just trying to help provide information. I learned the hard way not everything is as it seems.

A friend of mine picked up a used MAC tools MIG and he then wanted to sell it...well I looked at it and just said no thanks not what I need right now....take the MAC stickers off it and put it in a HF and it would blend right in.......the last one like his in HF was less than $500....the MAC one new was $2000 +

Yep,....Mac & Snap-on sell overpriced chinese welders & plasmas.

Not sure why, as their hand tools are top notch,...... pricey, and I only buy specialty things from them. I wonder why they drop the ball so bad with the welders???

Can't verify the accuracy and I do stand 2 B corrected but I heard there were only 2 plasma manufacturers in the world, every machine rebadged is either one or the other? Pretty sure Hypertherm was one of the 2.

Hi hardtail,

I do not think thats quite right.

Fronious and Kemppi both manufacture their plasma cutters. In fact Fronios has one that does not run compressed air through it but runs on a cylinder of fluid ( like water but not sure what it is )

However I do agree with you, in that many makers are rebadging plasma machines.

Ozwelder.
